Last Updated on June 8, 2022 by Maidul

The love for ice cream cones has no age limits, at least for true ice cream lovers. Even if someone doesn’t particularly have a sweet tooth, we all occasionally enjoy chilly ice cream in a crisp, tasty cone.

Making waffle cones yourself at home is pretty easy but spending a fortune on a waffle cone maker machine is not worth it unless you use it regularly.

You can achieve the exact outcome with a traditional waffle maker which you probably already own. If you want to find out how to make a waffle cone with a waffle maker at home, read along.

How to Make a Waffle Cone with a Waffle Maker

Follow the steps given below to make a fresh, homemade batch of waffle cones;

Step 1: Gather Ingredients for the Batter

Waffle Ingredients

The ingredients for making waffle cones are- you guessed it right, the same as the ingredients for making usual waffles. For our dry ingredients, we need flour, sugar (powdered is better), salt. Other ingredients we need are egg, butter, salt, cinnamon (optional). For measurements, we can adjust the ratios according to our needs.

Step 2: Keep a Funnel/Cone

We need an already existing cone/funnel-shaped utensil to wrap our waffle around for turning them into waffle cones.

Fortunately, most households store a funnel. Make sure to wash and ensure it is dry before you start using it. If you do not have a funnel at home, you can take an aluminum foil (or even a clean piece of paper) and fold it in a cone shape.

Step 3: Prepare the Batter

The recipe for our batter is quite simple. We mix our dry ingredients in a large bowl. We separate the egg white and the egg yolks and put the egg whites in a separate bowl. Whip the egg whites with powdered sugar. Add melted butter and whip again until a stiff meringue forms.

Prepare the Batter

Add your dry ingredients to the meringue and fold the batter in. The outcome may be thicker than the waffle batter we usually make.

If you are feeling a bit fancy, you can buy the ready-made waffle cone mix from the store. You’ll find them in the cake/pancake mix aisle, or more generally the baking aisle. Follow the instruction of the recipe given on the box.

Step 4: Preparing Your Waffle Maker

Start preheating the waffle maker using suitable settings. Lightly oil/spread melted butter on the surface with an oil brush when it is moderately heated.

Step 5: Making the Waffle

Making the Waffle

Generally, you should use one-quarter the amount of batter you do for making waffle cones, of what you use for regular waffles. If you still can’t decide, 2-3 tablespoons of the batter work just fine.

Carefully place the batter in the middle of the waffle maker and close the lid. Open the waffle maker when the light signals that your waffle is done. It should take about 45-60 seconds.

Step 5: Shaping the Cone

Shaping the Cone

This step is a bit tricky, as time is of the essence here. As soon as the waffle is done, lift it from the maker quickly (but gently), and wrap it around the funnel/cone. Press the end of the cones together for a few moments. Let it cool on the funnel before removing it. The cone is very thin and will harden as it cools off.

Step 6: Enjoy!

Repeat the process for as many waffle cones as you require. Now all you need is some ice cream to go with it!  (we don’t mind if you take a few bites off of the crispy waffle cone before.)

Extra Tips

  • Storing Additional Cones

If we are being honest with ourselves, we probably will not be having any extra waffle cones left. But in case you do, make sure to store them in an airtight box that has enough space to hold them without causing damage.

  • Crisping up a Stale Cone

If you leave your waffle cone unattended and unused for long without storing them properly, they might go stale.

All you need to do to crisp them up again is to place them upwards in a preheated oven, on a high heat setting for about 30 seconds. Wait for them to cool off as before. They might not taste as fresh, but they’ll still taste great and crispy.

Conclusion

And there we have it as promised, you now have found out how easy it is to make waffle cones at home without the help of a waffle cone maker machine. This method is easy, quick, and affordable- you can make waffle cones from the comfort of your home at any time.

Now that you know how to make a waffle cone with a waffle maker, all you need is to fill it with your flavor of ice cream (or don’t) and take a bite! Meet your sweet tooth craves more easily, and enjoy fresh homemade waffle cones on a budget.
